FAQ

SO WHAT IS PROXIMA GAMMA?

Proxima Gamma is an 18+ panfandom sex game. It is a man made island set inside a dome built entirely for observation purposes. While the island will be large enough to explore heavily by adventurous characters, and the sea is large enough to sail in, when they hit the edge of the dome, they will find no means of escape. No doors. No way to break it. Nothing.

The dome is run by a group of scientists who observe the island through a series of cameras set up around the dome. Experiments are conducted on the new arrivals via a chip inserted into the body upon their arrival. While not every experiment is sexual in nature, all experiments can be put to an end by fulfilling sexual requirements.

Proxima Gamma is a spin off of [community profile] proximabeta, a previously failed experiment that was abandoned years ago. Scientists altered the conditions when building their new world in hopes of getting the desired outcomes. While much is the same, minor tweaks to the social and geographical aspects have altered.

WHAT COUNTS AS "SEXUAL REQUIREMENTS"?

Any form of sexual contact with another person that results in the orgasm of at least one party. Masturbation will not work unless done mutually with another party. Sexual contact does not require consent in order to reset the chip. We simply ask that any non/dub-con threads be clearly marked with warnings when posted.

WHAT DO THE CHIPS DO? CAN MY CHARACTER FEEL THEM?

The chips are what control the experiments that happen to the characters. They are also responsible for the draining of powers if characters do not engage in enough sexual relations with one another. The chips are small and cannot be felt at most times. Occasionally, they might cause a small raised bump just under the skin, but they will disappear back into your system before they can be popped out.

The chips will also work as an auto-translator for characters. Because of this, there is no language barrier on Proxima Gamma, allowing people to read and hear foreign languages as though they were their own native language.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN MY CHARACTER ARRIVES IN THE DOME?

Upon arrival, your character wakes up in a room with three white walls and one large glass wall. It seems like it has no exit and the lights are blindingly bright. Your character will arrive with any item they had on them when they were taken from their canon point. It will be as though they are waking from a bout with anesthesia or a good knock to the head. Groggy and disoriented with stiff joints and no recollection of what happened when they were brought to the room.

The white room is not particularly well decorated; it's got the long twin bed that your character will wake up in, done up in stiff white sheets with an uncomfortable pillow. There will be a mirror hanging on the wall with a white desk beneath it. Those are the only decorations. Clearly you aren't meant to stay here very long.

While trying to piece together what's going on, your character will feel a sharp pain at the side of their neck. If they look in the mirror, they will see a bruise about the size of a dime with a puncture wound in the center. This is the entry point for the chip that will now make their lives a little more interesting and not in any sort of good way.

The window wall eventually flickers on, being used as a large TV screen. A man (or someone perceived to be a man, at the least) in a white lab coat fills the view. He smiles at your character and welcomes them to Proxima Gamma. Your character will be informed that they are currently resting in the center city hospital. They'll be reassured that they are safe and have been examined to make sure they are in top health. If your character is suffering from a terminal illness, the scientist greeting you will be happy to tell you that you have at least been stabilized, if not outright cured. Your illness will no longer be a problem so long as you continue to check in with the hospitals based around the island.

They will kindly leave out just why your character is here or what they expect from them. A device similar to what modern day Earthlings might recognize as a small tablet will be lowered into the room from the ceiling. The scientist will give a brief explanation on how it is used that your character is free to ignore or follow along. This device will be their only form of communication. They can make text, video and voice posts to the main network easily and keyboard extensions can be purchased from stores in the center city shops for those who dislike the touch screen interface.

Your character will be informed that they have a map of the island programed into the tablet all ready to use as your guide to get around. Any other questions will be left unanswered as the screen shuts off as suddenly as it is turned on. They will be forced to either leave the hospital room or turn to their devices to get some quick answers.

WHAT DOES THE DEVICE LOOK LIKE?

It's very similar to an iPad mini.

A NOTE FOR PLAYERS: All characters can have a Voicemail/Messaging option that we encourage you to set up in your characters journal. This is usually a catch-all post for people to do quick phone-tag or text messaging scenarios with their characters without making separate private posts in the game itself. Any Voicemail/Messaging conversations made in private journals may count as activity if you are looking for proofs to apply another character or request a pregnancy plot.

WHAT WILL MY CHARACTER GET OTHER THAN THE DEVICE?

Characters will be given a bank account with enough funds to live off of for exactly one month. All housing will be supplied with basic furniture, a set of linens, and basic dishes.

HOW LONG CAN MY CHARACTER STAY IN THE HOSPITAL?

Up to three days before the hospital staff will ask them to make room for other newcomers or actual patients.

DO I HAVE TO ROLEPLAY OUT SEX IF I JOIN?

Fade to black or handwaving are both perfectly acceptable. This is, however, a sexually themed game and most experiments that happen within the game will be sexual in nature. While playing out the smut is not a requirement, we don't encourage people who are uncomfortable with sex to apply to Proxima Gamma.

SO WHAT IF MY CHARACTER REFUSES TO HAVE SEX? WHAT WILL HAPPEN?

Characters who refuse to participate in an experiment in the given time frame (usually two weeks) will be given a heavy shot of aphrodisiacs from their chips and placed into a room with another unwilling participant. Once they participate in the requirements of the experiments, the chip will reset and they will be allowed to leave the facility again.

ARE PREGNANCIES AND STDS ALLOWED ON THE ISLAND?

Pregnancies are allowed, but protection and top of the line healthcare will be offered to all arrivals within the dome. Characters with STDs fall into the category of diseases being maintained or cured, but they are capable of being spread if characters are not careful. Please keep this sort of thing realistic and don't add it in just for the sake of stirring things up. Any large spread STD outbreaks must be cleared with the mods if they are not being done in an experiment. Medicine and cures are offered for all STDs at the hospital.

All pregnancy plots must be cleared with the mods and will require three months proof of activity. Pregnancies must be handled realistically and must last a full nine months, unless cleared as a realistic early delivery.

WHAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY IN THE DOME LIKE?

Most of it is extremely advanced; technology far past the capabilities of most modern societies. It may be on par with technology for characters from Star Trek or similar canons. The most advanced technology is very clearly in medicine, human sciences having been the most important focus of whatever species has taken you captive.

Most homes will come with television screens built into the walls. There will be high tech kitchens and the most advanced entertainment systems in the apartments and townhouses available to live in in the cities. For those who prefer a more simplistic lifestyle, outside of the cities are a series of villages that have chosen to reject the high-tech lifestyles of the cities. They may be more comfortable for those who want a more hands-on approach to living their life.

The dome ceiling that usually shows the "sun" and "sky" of the dome is also a large projection screen. PSAs from the scientists and discussions of various studies will be broadcasted both on the devices and over the dome screens so as not to be missed by the residents of the island.

WHAT IS THE ISLAND ITSELF LIKE?

More detailed information about the world can be found on the world page. This will give a brief overview of each section and how to get around.

There are no people living on the island outside of the newcomers. Advanced human-like AI run all of the shops throughout the island as well as the hospitals, farms, law enforcement (what little there is), water and electric, etc. They are entirely unhelpful to newcomers outside of making sure they stay safe and healthy. They provide no extra information on why you've been brought to the island and choose to do very little conversing with newcomers.

Most of the island seems to be abandoned.

The island is large enough and has vast areas of unoccupied land. In the center of the island is the Center City where your character will wake up. This will be where most free housing is available to new arrivals. It is filled with tall buildings, plenty of theaters, video game arcades, clothing stores, grocery stores, auto part shops - anything you can think of is likely capable of being found in Center City. It's where most occupants are encouraged to stay as it is considered the safest area for newcomers. Food and shelter are only free in Center City. If a character decides to leave the city, they will have to find ways to get their own homes through work (various shops as well as the hospital and police force will have job opportunities alongside the AI) or building with found materials, and will also have to resort to finding their own food if they don't come in to Center City to stock up.

The southern part of the city is shrouded in a darker air, however, and it seems that law enforcement has been ordered to keep away from this area. People are still welcomed to live there, but it is primarily abandoned. The cheapest housing is available in these areas, but you take your life into your own hands when you go there. AI with faulty programming were abandoned to this portion of the city, leaving violent and unstable programming that has fed off of each other for decades. These AI can only be stopped when they attack occupants if they are completely destroyed.

Outside the city are a series of small villages, as mentioned above. These villages have smaller homes, primarily hand built cottages, and the most modern technology you'll find pre-installed is a microwave.

To the north of the island, there are a series of mountains and cold regions. These areas are consistently covered in snow and temperatures often go below freezing. While not many choose to live up here, there are still some villages that can be found to live in. Large animals wander the mountains, easy pickings for those who enjoy hunting, and the meat can sustain a small family for several weeks.

To the south is a vast desert. It is prone to extreme heat as well as violent creatures inhabiting the sand dunes and very few people choose to venture out into it. There are some rather interesting rock formations to be found out west and some deep set caves, for those who have an interest in exploring. There is also what looks to be the old main city; now abandoned and falling to pieces, there aren't any living humans or AI to be found here.

To the east are the more tropical areas of the island. A vast jungle that leads to an open beach area that is welcomed to the public. While there are many poisonous creatures that lurk in the jungle, it's been deemed primarily safe, and some of the nicest villas can be found in this area. Many AI will speak of the interesting insect life and the high levels of protein for those who aren't squeamish about eating bugs.

To the west are open fields. Green pastures, large lakes, and rolling hills form the area. There is miles of good farming land, only a small percentage of which is used by AI for supplying Center City with fresh fruits and vegetables. The rest is up for grabs to newcomers to use as they see fit, should they decide to only trust food they grow themselves.

A high powered railway allows anyone to travel to any part of the island within minutes. On foot, it would likely take several days to walk from one end of the island to the other. There don't seem to be much more than dirt roads to travel on - the option to ride horses is available for those who know how and old school bikes are also available to rent. Otherwise, there are simplistic air crafts (flying cars and motorcycles, primarily) that people can use to go from place to place without having to use the public transportation.

IF THE ISLAND IS IN A DOME, IS THERE STILL WEATHER?

Yes, there is still weather; the scientists have installed various machines to simulate natural weather patterns. On days when the dome lid is showing sun and clear skies, the dome will feel warm and bright. On days when clouds are overhanging, it can be chilly and windy. Rain and snow can also occur, as well as violent storms should the scientists find need for them.

CAN MY CHARACTER REMOVE THE CHIP IN THEIR NECK?

No. But they can certainly try. Characters are free to dig into their necks (or the necks of others) to try and remove the chip, but will come up empty handed. Should they get close to reaching the chip inside their own or another's neck, the chip will send out an electrical short, forcing your character to cease digging until the chip can relocate, if not knocking them out entirely.

In the future, there may be a way to remove the chips, but for now, it is seemingly impossible.

CAN MY CHARACTER BREAK THE CAMERAS IN THE DOME?

They can, but they will be punished for it with heavier individualized experiments. OOCly, this is entirely up to the player what kind of punishment they receive. ICly, it would be an experiment ("curse") that would make your character the most uncomfortable. A kink they don't want to admit they love to indulge in, visions of a deceased loved one, or even something as extreme as reopening old physical wounds and forcing your character to either go to the hospital or bleed out in the middle of the city.

CAN MY CHARACTER DIE?

Yes, your character can die. After death, the body of your character will stay around for roughly two to three hours, before being seemingly teleported elsewhere. No one knows where the dead bodies go or what happens to them once they are taken. Within 48 hours, the deceased return to the hospital room they initially woke up in, fit as a fiddle with nothing more than a light scar to show proof that they even died in the first place.

If your character dies from suicide or murder, they will undergo a punishment when they are revived. Punishments can range from lost memories to lost limbs, or can be similar to individualized curse punishments that occur when you break the property of the dome.

Some experiments will even be so severe that there will be the option to have your character die from them. Should this happen to your character, no punishment will be given upon their revival.

WHAT IF MY CHARACTER DIES IN THEIR CANON?

Characters who are killed in their canon will be brought in pre-death; whether it's merely seconds before their heart stops is just enough for the scientists to save them from actually dying.

Characters who are dead throughout the entirety of their canon can be brought in from any point just as they are.

WHAT DO THE SCIENTISTS WANT WITH EVERYONE?

That is currently unknown. The most they will inform you is something along the lines of "for science!!"

WHAT ABOUT CRIME? HOW IS THAT HANDLED?

Crime is not heavily monitored within the dome. While there is law enforcement, they are mostly there to try and prevent people from breaking the property of the dome. Punishments for crimes are primarily handed down from the scientists and their desire to punish seems to fluctuate based on who's watching.

While most of the city is deemed safe enough, the south area is where the real crimes happen. Here, no crime seems to go punished at all - not even murder. Vigilantes are welcome to try and keep the peace, but for the most part, this is where villains can thrive in their natural environment. While it's the cheapest area to live, it is certainly the most dangerous, and few will come running if they hear you scream.

WHAT ARE THE HIATUS POLICIES IN THE GAME?

Hiatuses must last a minimum of two weeks and be announced on the Hiatus/Drop post to count towards AC. However, should you find you are likely going to be inactive for more than two weeks, we suggest posting up an announcement in the OOC comm tagged with "hiatus" so that we can easily check for you if someone tries to report you for character squatting while you are gone. If you are found to be taking frequent hiatuses, the mods may request that you consider leaving the game.

WHAT HAPPENS TO A CHARACTER WHEN THEY ARE DROPPED?

Often times when someone drops the game, leaving a vacancy in CR and the like, the character themselves will cease to exist within the game. It will be as if they disappeared completely. It can be assumed that the Scientists took possession of the character for now and when they are picked up again, they will wake up in the hospital. However this is not a known detail as of yet but reapps or anyone looking to break into the hospital (however unsuccessfully) are welcome to figure this out!

Their communication device (the iPad lookalikes) will also be removed as well as any possessions they had. Anyone trying to contact them will be unable to do so and will receive a RECIPIENT UNKNOWN error.

CAN I CANON UPDATE MY CHARACTER?

Yes, you can, so long as you contact the mods about it. Characters who are canon updated will be knocked out wherever they last were in the dome. They will be transported to the hospital, kept there until they awaken. Most will stay unconscious for a few hours (short updates, ranging up to a year) others could be out for several days to a week (longer updates spanning multiple years).

WHAT ABOUT POWERS OR NON-HUMAN FORMS?

All characters who have non-human forms at home will be placed into human-like bodies. They can still have tails, ears, wings, etc., but their bodies will take on the shape of humans and they will be given the necessary equipment to engage in sex. Transformers (or any non-human robot forms) will be given android bodies that can engage in sex and respond to the aphrodisiacs in the same way human bodies would. Ala the powers rule, if they are agreeable test subjects, they will be able to revert back to their own forms (Transformers specifically into both their robot and their vehicle transformations) at will. If they do not comply with the scientists, these abilities will be halted.

Powers are also capable of being earned in Proxima Gamma. For more information on it, please see the IC portion of our rules page.

I WANT TO APPLY AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER. WILL THIS BE HARDER THAN APPLYING SOMEONE WHO IS CANON?

Most likely, yes. We expect much more in original character applications, such as detailed history sections so we can get a feel of what kind of world your character comes from if it isn't a canon universe. We will also look heavily for contradictory or unrealistic personalities, to make sure that all characters are completely up to the standards of ones that would come out of published fictional works. Because of this, it may seem like we are judging original characters more harshly, but we are simply looking for quality players, just like we would from canon.

WHAT ABOUT SILENT PROTAGONISTS? SHOULD I APPLY THEM AS AN ORIGINAL CHARACTER OR CANON?

It depends on the silent protagonist. If the characters history/gameplay stays exactly the same (outside of build your own adventure options), we will allow you to apply them as a canon character. This includes characters like Shephard from Mass Effect, Link in Zelda, or the silent protagonists in Persona.

If your silent protagonist is from something more akin to an MMORPG, where adventures are influenced by the people playing the game with you rather than canon characters reacting to them, we suggest applying them as an original character. We will accept characters from things such as World of Warcraft for this reason.

WHY DON'T YOU ALLOW WEBCOMICS?

Currently, it is because there is a thin line between what webcomics have enough actual story to them to and which don't do qualify as applicable canon characters. While some web source content like Homestuck and Hanna Is Not A Boy's Name certainly do, there are many web comics who have rotating canon characters or no real set storyline to them.

If the games popularity increases and more people become interested in applying web comic characters, the mods may be inclined to change their minds later. We will be sure to keep the player base up to date on the status of web comic characters if it ever alters in the future.

If a webcomic has a hardened edition out of any chapters, even if it's just the earlier ones being published belatedly thanks to popularity, we are willing to consider it a hard copy comic and allow applications from the canon.

WHAT ARE THE COMMUNITIES AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR? HOW DO THE TAGS WORK IN THEM?

Tags in all IC comms will be written as "FULL CHARACTER NAME (CANON)". Western style is not required. Examples would be "UZUMAKI NARUTO (NARUTO)" or "HERMIONE GRANGER (HARRY POTTER)". Original characters would be "CHARACTER NAME (ORIGINAL)".

Is there a smut requirement for AC? I saw the options listed in the rules and didn't see mention of it, but I wanted to check to make sure. And I'm sorry if this is listed somewhere and I've overlooked it!

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
how many examples are we expected to provide for canon character applications?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
i noticed this game doesn't have a personality section for the canon apps. i'm planning on apping a character i've never played elsewhere, so i'm wondering if links are mandatory or if we can write something for the sample. is there a certain length you'd like to see in the prose?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-16 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
oh and another question: will all posts to the community be locked?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
for future rounds, would it be possible to have reserves run out before apps do? not to challenge any apps put in, but if someone just reserves and never intends to app, that leaves anyone else who might want to waiting until next round. (or maybe implement it this round since apps are almost up and there's plenty of reserves that don't seem to be following through)?

+1

(Anonymous) 2015-07-29 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
i could see leaving them for the whole round if they were actually hard apps, but these are half-apps at best and if someone can't get them in until the absolute last moment, i'm not sure they really wanted to in the first place. the chance should be open for someone that might actually want to play.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-30 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
thank you. mostly the confusion seemed to come from 'the reserve lasts for the duration of the app round', so it was implied that no one could app that reserved char for the entire app round.

What are the AI like? Are they largely humanoid looking robots? Holograms? What are they made of? Is there a lot of diversity? How tough are they to destroy? How dangerous are the renegade ones in south city to the average person?

Wondering when the next TDM is going up? Reserves open soon, so I'm hoping they go up with enough time to let someone get a feel.

Hey, no worries or anything. No one got hurt in the making of this message. I did check the calendar just in case because I thought it was up there. Thank you for the quick answer. =)

Hi, I like to bug you with stupid questions. I've noticed there's no tags in the comms. Is that by design or are we supposed to put in our own? If so, what's the preferred format? If not.. ignore this.

I think it was set up that way, but I didn't bother checking because I wasn't sure about the format. =) Thank you.

One more unrelated question and I promise I'll shut up for like... three days. >> Any idea on when the new calendar's going up?

EDIT: I just tried to add a tag for him (mcu: steve rogers) in the network comm and it says I'm not allowed to create a new tag entry.

Are there bars in the City?

Because Sheena makes a hell of a bouncer.

I think she can do the bouncer in either one. LOL
